In yet another classic show of double standard, Bangladesh’s convicted businessman Dr Muhammad Yunus, brought into display a classic perception building exercise using media to score points without offering any proof.
His unusual favouratism and of media came following Yunus’s self-admission, in an interview with a foreign outlet, where he can be seen proudly taking a brag at maintaining a classic biased approach at avoiding press but applying favoritism to selective outlets that only toes in his line.
“I don’t welcome press as a whole rather being selective in giving interviews and even conditions are attached to them prior to publication of stories.. I do this to avert any danger”, revealed Yunus in an earlier interview that has completely exposed his cult of discouraging journalists from adverse reportage.
“This is what fugitives, killers, military dictators among others prefer to do with media that adds to the advantage in PR blitz of such controversial figures. Yet Yunus’s hypocrisy over press is quite unique given his sudden all-embracing manner at opening up mouth on joining chorus with opposition, a complete U turn from his previous approach, according to journalists
About his sudden clamour over health of democracy, Yunus insisted on speaking up on this partisan issues, no way such justification can be described not grounded on facts.
But he did not offer much explanation about why he has taken a public stance that seeks to lend credence only to a political party, giving up his cover of neutrality, highly unusual for nobel laureate who basks in the glory of keeping away any political ambition.
“I am with democracy, are you against democracy, you should say I am also with democracy, we are in favour of democracy, human rights, rule of law, these are our collective responsibilities,” he told courting rebukes for netizens as well.
Having made one botched attempt to make a foray into politics, Yunus already faced the taste of public rejection despite he chose a rosy path as he floated a political party reportedly backed by then propped up unelected regime Caretaker government, with full endorsement from the army.
All led to the military’s brazen interference, all popular political leaders including now prime-minister Sheikh Hasina were locked in prison, with the stated objective of holding any polls, brining alive the darkest hours of military rule after the midnight massacre in 1975.
On the other hand, Yunus was found spreading lies using this interview as a platform in defence of his controversial moves.
“They stormed my offices and occupied everything, no law was complied with. Employees were left panic stricken” but Yunus failed to show those officials were neither brandished weapons nor did they enter venue prior to informing notice and could not place any proof to buttress his argument”.
And national media reports that dug out the veracity of the claim of Yunus found that he even welcomed and exchanged greetings with the officials who came to take over from him on February 12.
On his tax default, Yunus despite found guilty and later paid taxes, in the interview he faked his narratives before viewers, another glaring testament to prove himself innocent.
