Tarique Rahman is the acting chairman of BNP. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told bdnews24.com on February 21, 2018, “We have made a minor change in the Constitution of the BNP. Article 7 of the BNP constitution states that the following persons shall be deemed ineligible for the post of member of the National Council, National Executive Committee, National Standing Committee or any other level of Executive Committee or in the election of the National Assembly – a) Convicted by Presidential Order No. 8 of 1972, b) Bankrupt, c) Insanity, d) A person known as corrupt or notorious in the society.”
BNP has removed this clause that stipulates corrupt people cannot be in any committee of BNP. This change is minor for the party secretary-general, but everyone knows that Tarique Rahman has got the post of acting chairman of BNP due to this change. However, no party can bring such a change in their party constitution in the eyes of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. At a rally in London on March 26, 2022, Tarique Rahman said, “A neutral government have to be formed before the elections. And the BNP will win the election and form a ‘national government’ under their leadership.”
Now realize where the BNP wants to take Bangladesh.
